Natasha Bedingfield Is Judging ‘Avon Voices’

Avon Products, Inc. launches Avon Voices, its first-ever global online singing talent search for women and songwriting competition for men and women in celebration of its 125th Anniversary. Avon invites people from more than 60 countries, along with its 6.2 million independent sales Representatives, to ignite a global movement through music. A renowned judging panel of music industry leaders from around the world includes: Fergie, six-time Grammy award winner; Diane Warren, legendary songwriter; Natasha Bedingfield, Grammy nominated singer/songwriter; Delta Goodrem, Australian Artist of the Decade; Lea Salonga, Filipina singer and actress; Ivete Sangalo, Brazil’s biggest pop star; and Russian sensation, Valeriya. Highlights of the year-long program will include travel to exciting destinations for nearly 200 global contenders to receive professional coaching and Avon makeovers, and record performance videos.
The goal of the Talent Search is to find two talented singers – one an Avon Representative – who may have the opportunity to record a professionally produced album.

“For 125 years, Avon has empowered women to find their own unique voices as they work to make their dreams come true. We are thrilled to now give women the opportunity to share their voice, their song and their story through this unprecedented global talent search,” noted Andrea Jung, CEO and Chairman of Avon Products, Inc. “Avon Voices will celebrate Avon’s heritage and our future, as we raise women up through beauty, inspiration and song.”

Starting today, December 1, 2010, the program’s official website – AvonVoices.com – is live, and open for registration. There are three ways to engage as a member of the Avon Voices global community:
Sing: Women are invited to participate in the online Singing Talent Search by choosing a song from the website and uploading a submission video through February 13, 2011 at AvonVoices.com.

Vote: Everyone can be a talent scout and recruit all of the talented people they know, watch videos, and vote for their favorite Avon Voices contenders to help decide the outcome. From April through October, the search will be narrowed down four times by a combination of online public voting and judges’ scores. (Official Round One voting begins April 22, 2011).

Write: Women and men may enter the Songwriting Competition. Write an original song that inspires or shares hope and optimism with the world. Simply submit a digital file and lyric sheet at AvonVoices.com (between May 20, 2011 and July 1, 2011).

Global Music Industry Leaders Lend Their Expertise

Avon Voices has gathered an unprecedented array of music artists from around the world to support this movement. Joining Fergie, Ms. Warren, Ms. Bedingfield, Ms. Goodrem, Ms. Salonga, Ms. Sangalo and Valeriya on the judging panel will be: Sheila E., breakthrough, Grammy-nominated female percussionist; David Pack, Grammy award-winning singer/composer and music producer; and Maia, Colombian singing star. Additional global judges will be announced in the coming weeks.

“I’m so fortunate to be living my dreams through music. I know so many women dream of having their voices be heard – now they can,” says Fergie. “Avon Voices will give women everywhere the chance to share their beautiful voices with the world.”

Currently, many other music and entertainment celebrities have joined forces in support of Avon Voices at a national and regional level in every corner of the globe. Local consumer and promotional events will be taking place throughout the year, especially during the Talent Search submission period. Avon Voices is also featured in over 40 million Avon brochures being distributed globally during December and January.

Music Downloads to benefit the Avon Foundation for Women

Avon Voices is about more than providing a showcase for undiscovered talent. Throughout the year, music will be available for digital download in select countries, with a percentage of proceeds supporting the Avon Foundation for Women’s global campaign to end violence against women and girls. To date, Avon global philanthropy has raised and awarded more than $30 million directed to domestic and gender violence awareness, education, direct services and prevention programs.

In support of Avon’s Global Campaign, Ms. Warren will be releasing her single Until U Love U, recorded by Valeriya and produced by David Pack. The digital download will be available for purchase in certain participating countries in January 2011.

“As a songwriter, I know what it’s like to touch the hearts and lives of people through the power of music.” Ms. Warren said. ”I’m truly inspired by Avon’s commitment to uplifting women through the universal language of music.”

At the conclusion of the program, Ms. Warren will also be providing an anthem to be recorded by up to 10 global finalists alongside many of Avon Voices celebrity judges, with proceeds going to Avon global philanthropy. The anthem will debut live at the Avon Foundation for Women Annual Gala, scheduled for Fall 2011 in New York City.

    11/23/10 – Winter Wonderland 2010

One’s a big-headed, childish celebrity doing a wacky dance… and the other is Nicole Richie enjoying herself in LA yesterday.

The socialite was boogying with Foofa, who I hear is from kids’ TV show Yo Gabba Gabba.
But she wasn’t the only one to catch the pre-Christmas kiddie bug.

Natasha Bedingfield couldn’t resist a big lolly and a cuddle from Santa at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland. Ho ho ho.

Natasha Bedingfield has become BFFs with Nicki Minaj

One’s the good girl of pop – and one is very, very, bad.

So we were stunned to hear that Natasha Bedingfield has become BFFs with Nicki Minaj.

The US rapper – who gave Gaga a run for her money in her bonkers bodysuit in New York on Thursday – has even recorded a track, Last Chance, with our Nat, 29, for her new album Pink Friday and it’s hot. Nat told us at the May Fair hotel: “Nicki is so sweet. She called me one day and asked if I was available to collaborate. I couldn’t believe I was at Eminem’s studio, I felt like kissing the walls.”

And the feeling’s mutual, as Nicki, 25, raved: “I loved These Words. I would play it over and over.”

    Get Natasha Bedingfield’s Rocker Locks

    By Gwen Flamberg for UsMagazine.com.

You may remember that I had the pleasure of shooting a hair feature for the magazine and a fun video (which aired on this blog!) with Natasha Bedingfield back in June. I so enjoyed spending time with her and I was struck by how cool and lovely she was; seriously, the type of girl that anyone would want to be friends with!

Loved her look at the American Music Awards on Sunday — not only because her shag looked hot, but also because her hair cut is so easily relatable to women growing out their layered cuts. Bedingfield’s stylist, the super hot hair guru Caile Noble of L.A.’s Serge Normant at John Frieda salon, tells UsMagazine.com how he did the look.

First, he spritzed volumizing spray at the roots to create lift, then he used a small round brush to blow dry, lifting from the roots with tension to boost body. Once hair was dry, he added texture to locks with dry shampoo, for that edgy, rocker look. He finished by sweeping bangs over to one side and setting with a fine mist of hairspray.

Natasha Bedingfield Talks ‘Strip Me’ Meaning, Nicki Minaj Collab

Natasha Bedingfield promises that the title of her new album, “Strip Me,” does not refer to wardrobe malfunctions or any kind of prurient desires.

“The album’s called ‘Strip Me’ because it’s all about stripping it down to who we are as humans,” the British-born songstress tells Billboard.com. “We’re united about our needs, our desires and our pain, all the different things we go through together. ‘Strip Me’ felt like it explains what the songs are about more than any other title I could think of. So it has a double meaning, but I think people kind of know me enough to know what I mean by it.”

Bedingfield adds that “Strip Me,” which comes out Dec. 7, also refers to her sonic ambitions on the 14-track set, which she executive produced while working with collaborators such as John Shanks, Ryan Tedder, Steve Kipner and John Hill.

“I wanted the album to musically feel kind of stripped-back and have a simplicity to it,” she explains. “When I sing and perform live, I strip it back so often. Many times it’s just me and a guitar or me on piano and keyboards…I felt like I really wanted to represent a bit of that on the album. I feel like creatively it’s my most cohesive work. It really feels like all the songs belong together.”

The songs from “Strip Me” aren’t the only way for fans to hear Bedingfield these days, however. She also shows up in the worlds of country and hip-hop, guesting on “Easy” from Rascal Flatts’ new album “Nothing Like This” and on “Last Chance” from Nicki Minaj’s debut, “Pink Friday.”

“I’ve always had very eclectic and varied tastes in music,” Bedingfield says. “I think you’re always going to see that from me, just working with people in different genres. I love it. Rascal Flatts were fantastic; I’ve always been into folk music and Americana, people like Johnny Cash, so I feel that’s quite linked to country music. And I know Rascal Flatts are classified as pop/country, definitely more in that world. So it was like opening a window for me.

“And with Nicki, I come from London and we’ve got a heavy influence in hip-hop. She called me and was like, ‘I’d love for you to sing on this. I’m a huge fan,’ and I was instantly like, ‘I’ll do this.’ I heard the song she’d written and it gave me goosebumps. I was like, ‘I’ve got to be on that.’ I was in Detroit, doing some promotion, so I went into Eminem’s studio and it was amazing, really catching off Eminem’s vibe. He wasn’t there, but his studio is great.”

Bedingfield says she’s planning to tour in 2011 to promote “Strip Me,” but no dates have been set yet. “I know it’s all being mapped out now,” she says.
